Madison County Specialty Courts
The state of Alabama Department of Youth Services began to utilize its resources towards a state plan that would focus mostly on community-based rehabilitation and treatment programs. This change is consistent with the
state's recent implementation of various specialty courts, sometimes called problem-solving or therapeutic courts. Most counties in the State of Alabama have designed these courts to focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment, with the goal of addressing the underlying problem that led the juvenile to commit an offense.
Madison County Juvenile Court has three specialty courts Drug Court, Alternative Court and Truancy Court. These courts are judicially supervised treatment programs serving nonviolent offenders. Specialty court participants undergo an intensive regimen of substance abuse and mental health treatment, case management, drug testing, and probation supervision while reporting to regularly scheduled status hearings before a judge or referee with specialized expertise in the drug court and mental health model. Please feel free to examine the overview for both of these courts on this website.
